American Yellowwood

Cladrastis kentukea

Yellowwood is an uncommon native tree with dark green foliage that turns a delicate yellow or orange in the fall. Breathtaking, pendulous, foot-long, wisteria-like clusters of fragrant, white flowers that appear in late spring and early summer, often in alternate years. The tree is upright and has a graceful spreading crown with low branches. Its smooth light gray bark provides winter interest.
