A native tree with upright, pyramidal branching. Will grow 50 to 60 feet tall and 25 feet wide. New foliage growth is a bright red, turning dark green during summer and then fiery red in fall.

Provide deep, acidic, moist, well-drained soil. Water deeply and regularly during the first few growing seasons to establish an extensive root system. Once established prefers evenly moist soil, but tolerates dry spells and heavy moisture. Apply fertilizer before new growth begins in spring.
